Chargers Stopped on Road Against 7th-Ranked Warriors

OTTUMWA, Iowa — Hunter Caves (Alburnett, Iowa/Alburnett) scored 11 points off the bench in the Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team’s 96-68 loss at nationally ranked Indian Hills on Monday night.

Playing in his home state, Caves shot 5 of 7 from the field and collected four rebounds for the Chargers (14-10) against the Warriors (22-5), ranked seventh in NJCAA Division I.

An Atem Agot (East Moline, Ill./United Township) 3-pointer capped a 9-0 run that gave the Chargers a 24-19 lead with 7:04 to play in the first half, but the Warriors answered with 10 of the next 12 points and took a 42-33 lead into halftime.

Matt Williams (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame) led Sandburg in scoring for the second straight contest, totaling 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Williams also paced the Chargers with nine rebounds. Agot had 15 points, four boards and three assists for Sandburg, and Connor Barnett (Fulton, Ill./Fulton) added 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting.

The hosts had five players score in double figures, led by Davin Zeigler’s game-high 24 points and 15 rebounds, which was also a game-high.
